Born December 23 1975 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, where he later attended the Monessori Lyceum Amsterdam grammar school, Bouke Bunnik studied Materials Science and Technology at the Delft University of Technology. He performed his Ms.C work in the Materials Physics research unit of the section Physical and Chemical Materials Science. At the end of June 2001, he defended his Ms.C work on the growth of Cu thin films on Mo studied by Molecular Dynamics simulations. Bouke joined the Theoretical Chemistry Group of the Laboratory of Inorganic Chemistry and Catalysis as a Ph.D student in October 2001. He works on Methane activation and the role of (metal) surface reconstruction therein. This work partly continues on the work by Paul van Beurden.
