Ionel Mugurel Ciobîcă was born in Arbore, department of Suceava,
Romania in 1971. He obtained his first degree and certificate of
bachelor in Physical Chemistry from University of Bucharest (1995). His
Master of Science research at University of Provence, Aix-Marseille I,
France, was a theoretical investigation of water adsorption on NaCl
surface (1996).
After that, he has been a Ph.D student at the TU in Eindhoven, studying
methane activation on metalic surfaces with DFT methods.
This period ended with the succesfull defense of his
Ph.D. thesis
on the 9th of January, 2002. Dr. Ciobīcă is now working at
the Research and Development division of Sasol Technology (Pty) Ltd.. His office, however, is currently situated within the SKA-research group of Eindhoven TU and in most respects, he is still part of the group and we consider him to be a (semi-)permanent guest.
