Tonek Jansen was born in Maastricht in 1959. Following school education
at the Stedelijk Lyceum en HAVO, Maastricht, he went to the Catholic University
of Nijmegen to do a Master's Degree, specialising in theoretical chemistry.
His Ph.D. research, also in Nijmegen, was based on the development of
lattice dynamics methods to describe large amplitude vibrations (specifically
applied to solid nitrogen and solid oxygen).
